Join us for The Patriarch’s Wife: How Submitting to My Husband’s Headship Led to a Dysfunctional Marriage of Narcissism and Martyrdom. Vyckie will share her experience in escaping from a Patriarchal marriage and the Quiverfull movement, followed by an extended Q&A.
Patriarchy is the belief that by God’s perfect design, it is the father who is the head of the home. In his leadership capacity, the father serves as protector, provider and shepherd for his wife and children. He is primarily responsible for the wife’s and children’s physical, emotional and spiritual well-being and with such responsibility comes the (divinely granted) commensurate authority over the members of his household. According to this view, God works through the father and he serves as an intermediary for his wife and children. Honor, obedience, and submission are highly valued qualities because they are necessary to maintain order and work together to accomplish the Lord’s vision for a godly family.
Living in the Quiverfull movement, Vyckie’s household fit the rigid mold of a patriarchy. With firsthand experience as someone who was a patriarch’s wife, and the mother to a “quiver full” of children, Vyckie will relate her story to the audience, followed by an extended Q&A.

About Vyckie Garrison
No Longer Quivering
Vyckie Garrison was once a prominent member of the Quiverfull community, a rapidly growing Christian fundamentalist movement that bans birth control and encourages huge, “Biblical families” such as the Duggar Family of TLC’s 19 and Counting fame. Garrison edited and published a Christian “pro-life, pro-family” newspaper for 16+ years in northeast Nebraska while home-churching, home birthing, and home schooling seven children. She made waves when she left the Quiverfull movement, divorced her husband, and began speaking out against the lifestyle. Vyckie has appeared on The Joy Behar Show, The Secret Lives of Women, The Story with Dick Gordon, as well as numerous podcasts and radio programs including Thom Hartmann, Living After Faith and Godless Bitches. She is a well-respected adversary of Biblical patriarchy and the damages that it can inflict. She started the blog “No Longer Quivering” to provide support to women and children who are escaping abusive religious movements and to provide the public with accurate and compassionate information on the unique challenges faced by the spiritually abused.
