Description:

Star Trek has inspired a devoted following since it first aired in 1966. Why does it have such a colossal appeal? Each richly nuanced episode calls to us on numerous levels simultaneously. The series was the first sci-fi show to treat the adventure of space exploration as a serious matter, going far beyond earlier kids shows. Like the best sci-fi novels, it brought together dramatic action, exciting predictions of breakthroughs in science and technology, and social concerns as well.

Join us as Dr. Thomas Picard (yes that’s really his name), who was an early fan of Star Trek, shares his fascination and insights from the series. A practicing psychiatrist and teacher he noticed when he began his professional training that practically every theme and topic covered in his courses applied to at least one Trek adventure. That realization struck him with the ambition to ferret out the treasures of hidden layers of meaning in the “Star Trek,” the original series.
