Tonight Stan will be addressing us on Benjamin Franklin and his contributions to medicine. Dr. Ben Franklin’s extensive contributions to Medicine have not been adequately recognized, a fact now corrected by Stan. History is a good avenue for appreciating and coming to understand great discoveries and their context.

Professor of Psychology in Arts & Sciences, Washington University in St. Louis

. Stan was the founding President for the International Society of the History of the Neurosciences and the first and senior editor for their Journal. . He has appeared and served on a PBS series about the brain and its functions. His book on Minds Behind the Brain: A History of the Pioneers and Their Discoveries covers the histories and ideas of major scientific and philosophical geniuses. His books include Origins of Neuroscience (1994) and Minds Behind the Brain: A History of the Pioneers and their Discoveries (2000). His journal articles cover a range of historical topics including the discovery of cerebral dominance, the brain science behind Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and the recognition of affective changes in multiple sclerosis
