“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Most people would say they agree with this phrase. After all what’s more subjective than aesthetic tastes? But then why do we insist on arguing about which band has the better grooves, which film director makes the best films, which playwright is the greatest? Most philosophers abandoned the attempt to find an objective standard by which to judge the value of art long. There simply are no universally held aesthetic values. But new insights in evolutionary psychology are now challenging this notion. Join us to hear Jeremy Beahan will be speaking on Darwin vs. the Art Critic, and learn how evolutionary psychology is challenging the current views of aesthetics.

After the meeting, join us at Vitale’s Restaurant, 834 Leonard NE, Grand Rapids, MI to socialize. View Map
